A stretch of I-87 near Chestertown was the scene of a fatal car accident.
The collision occurred late Friday night in the southbound lane when, according to police, a 2017 Mini Countryman collided head-on with a Volvo CX70. The Countryman, which was traveling north, was driving the wrong way at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Volvo was sent to UVM Medical Center and is reportedly in critical condition. The front seat passenger, 27, and rear passenger, 30, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Countryman was taken to Albany Medical Center with mild injuries.
